MARY'S APPLICATION TIPS

Δ Whether brushing with tooth powder or traditional toothpaste, I recommend using a soft—medium bristled brush to avoid overly agitating delicate gums.

Δ To avoid the powder congealing, it's best to keep moisture/wet toothbrushes out of the jar. Instead, here are 3 super simple methods of application, so you can choose your own adventure!

1. The 'Dry Brush Dip': The easiest way (and my preferred method) is to simply dip your dry toothbrush into the tooth powder jar and start brushing. Whether using toothpaste or tooth powder, you don't actually need to wet your toothbrush before brushing (in fact some practitioners advise against it!), as brushing stimulates your saliva glands naturally. Saliva is 99% water, so it does a great job in itself when brushing your teeth.

2. The 'Scoop It Straight In': Wet your toothbrush, (or don't — see above!) and, using a small spoon or paddle, scoop the powder directly into the front of your mouth and start brushing.

Note: I find using a dry toothbrush actually enhances the overall polishing and cleaning effect. The initial few seconds before our saliva wettens the mouth gives the dry powder a chance to gently scrub and 'exfoliate', the teeth and gums. It may feel weird at first, but once you get used to it, you may never turn back!

3. The 'Make It A Paste':  Love the ingredients of Cinnaminty, but miss the feeling of toothpaste? Make it a paste! Simply mix some of the powder with either coconut oil or vegetable glycerine in a separate bowl or jar, and adjust to your desired consistency. Vegetable glycerine produces a sweeter paste (like what most people expect when using toothpaste), while coconut oil offers excellent antimicrobial benefits.

DECONSTRUCTING THE GOOD STUFF

Kaolin clay: Kaolin clay offers purifying and detoxifying action, effectively cleaning without abrading tooth enamel. Kaolin clay has the ability to gently lift plaque and stains, helping to whiten and brighten teeth, and it's said the calcium and trace minerals present in kaolin clay also help to remineralise teeth.

Activated charcoal: Activated charcoal is a powerful detoxifier — boasting an impressive ability to bind and draw out dirt, impurities and toxins, while helping to eliminate bacteria and balance pH. And of course, we love activated charcoal for its very notable teeth whitening effects!

Cinnamon and Cinnamon essential oil: With antimicrobial, antiseptic, analgesic, anti-fungal, antibacterial and antiviral actions, we think perhaps noble Cinnamon deserves a superhero cape when it comes to fighting off the bad guys in our mouth!

Celtic sea salt: Salt is an age-old remedy for oral health. Its antiseptic and bactericidal properties assist to disinfect the mouth and lift plaque off the teeth. Celtic sea salt in particular has an alkaline pH and is rich in minerals such as calcium, magnesium and potassium.

Sodium bicarbonate: We use just the right touch of aluminium-free sodium bicarbonate to boost the whitening and brightening effects of our tooth powder formula, while also assisting to neutralise bacterial acids and reduce plaque.

Organic peppermint essential oil: Famed for its uplifting, refreshing flavour — but why else has peppermint been so long valued in oral care? Oh that's right, because it's antibacterial, antifungal and antiseptic properties do a great job at keeping our gums in check! ☺

Clove bud essential oil: Clove has been called upon for toothaces and gum troubles since time immemorial. And that's simply because it works. With antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, dear clove will dutifully help nip oral imbalances in the bud (pardon the pun ☺).

Organic Green Leaf Stevia: A perfect pinch of whole green leaf stevia 'rounds out' the neutral flavours of the dry elements. This is not a sweet product (like most commercial toothpastes are), but just a touch of natural sweetness works wonders to harmonise the formula.
